Local Business Champion: Jane Martin

Local Business Champion: Jane Martin

Meet Jane Martin: Crofton Park’s local legend; Mother; Patron of independent business; Deputy Director of Brockley Max; blogger; passionate Remainer and the woman behind @JaneCanDoSE4. This August will mark her thirtieth year living in Crofton Park and she’s easy to spot when I arrive for our meeting at Parlez in Brockley. She’s the one chatting to just about everyone in the café. It’s a beautiful sunny day and we take a seat outside, it really is Jane in her natural habitat: a bright and breezy Southeast London parade, waxing lyrical about her love of all things local…

An evening with The Hummingbird's Nectar

An evening with The Hummingbird's Nectar

Inspired by their origins (Kem and Rebiye are Turkish Cypriot, and Tyron is Turkish-Caribbean) they wanted to bring a taste of the home cooking they grew up with, the food of their roots, to a wider audience. As Kem put it: “I realised that I had two chefs and no kitchen.” It was with this realisation that the 'Back To Our Roots' pop-up was born. Its West Indies inspired incarnation ‘The Hummbingbird's Nectar’ first came to Hither Green late last year and has proved hugely popular. It’s a definitively family affair...

Blue Plaques of Deptford and New Cross

Blue Plaques of Deptford and New Cross

Here it is, another article in our series on the blue plaques of South London, and this week we're talking about the blue plaques of Deptford and New Cross. From the outset we're going to be very honest with you and tell you that there is only one 'official' blue plaque in Deptford and New Cross. Talking about only one plaque would not be particularly interesting however, so we're included the Lewisham maroon plaques as well in this list, along with one or two other plaques. Some might accuse this list of being somewhat arbitrary as we haven't included every plaque in the area, but we've included those which we thought were worth including. Though there is only one blue plaque, we've called this article the 'Blue Plaques of Deptford and New Cross' for the sake of consistency. Anyhow, we hop you enjoy this list of the blue plaques of Deptford and New Cross.
