Best of Halloween in South London: What’s on, where, and when.

What do Goblins, Vampires, masquerades, and an infinite supply of Pumpkins have in common? The strangest of our annual celebrations, linking us with our fears of the occult and our wonder of the supernatural, Halloween is definitely a rogue when compared to other annual celebrations! We dress up and roam the streets under the moonlight, seeking to frighten our fellow citizens out of their wits, then politely ask for their sweets...An obscure tradition. But a tradition none the less. If you're left wondering what to do on Halloween this year in South London, look no further. We’ve picked out some of the best things to do to get spooked and make you wish you hadn’t left home...

Elephant & Castle

Low Life presents Dia De Los Muertos - Corsica Studios Saturday 28th October

For the party lovers amongst us, one of the best Halloween nights of the capital is happening down South this year at Elephant & Castle’s famous Corsica Studios. Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton's seminal London party - Low Life - is back for one last big blow-out. With the devastatingly frightful theme of ‘Mexican day of the dead’, this party is sure to provoke a chilling vibe and scare the life out of you, (fear not, zombies). Expect costumes to include ghost skeleton’s, a plentitude of exuberant skulls, and much more at this hallowed raver’s paradise…Details here.

Waterloo

Halloween Raveyard - The Vaults - Saturday 28th October

For those looking for a visceral, realistic, and historically accurate experience this Halloween, look no further than Halloween Raveyard, an all night rave happening in Waterloo. Hosted at the iconically spooky The Vaults under Waterloo station, the location is said to have been used as a makeshift morgue in the 19th century. With that in mind, be prepared for close encounters of the ghostly kind when venturing around the rave. Hopefully it’s morbid history won’t be too much of a put off though - the fancy dress code should do more than enough to inspire a vibrant, if somewhat eerie vibe...Find out more here.

Packing a capacity of 3000, this is going to be one heck of a halloween party. There’s a lot on offer here to any of the daring attendees, with everything from Dramatic Contortion & sword swallowing to a blade regurgitation...Not for the faint-hearted one may say. Brockley & Crofton Park

Halloween Disco At The Rivioli Ballroom - 28th October

Who said ghouls and glamour can’t go hand in hand? For the disco and funk lovers out there who appreciate releasing their inner le freak at every opportunity, this is the perfect way to spend your Halloween dancing the night away under the disco ball and the moonlight. Rivoli Ballroom is a remarkable grade II listed building in Brockley and is one of Lewisham’s secret gems. It has a 1950/60s interior decor, giving it an authentic vintage look. The music on the night will be of the ghoul funk variety, with DJ Kobayashi providing a ‘horror journey into the sound blend of music’ (whatever that means). Dresscode is listed as "terrifying 70’s and 80’s" (Funky Frankenstein in flares and shades? I think I can just about picture it). Attendees are advised not to come alone! Tickets here.

Catford

Halloween Film Screening - Catford Constitutional Club.

As part of the Our Hither Green programme for this year’s Halloween, fringe group ‘Other side of the tracks’ - which we assume refers to those passionate Hither Greeners who reside on the ‘Catford’ side of Hither Green train station, are hosting this blood-thirsty spectacle at one of Catford’s famed - and aptly gothic - venues, the Constitutional Club. With the classic comedy horror being shown at 7:30pm, the night will evolve quickly into a ‘Monster mash to the witching hour’ for the ghoulish attendees to unleash their inner occult through the medium of dancing…
